Vermont Workforce Investment Boards
In May 2007, the Vermont Legislature passed comprehensive legislation regarding workforce development. The text of this Bill (H.433) can be viewed by clicking on Legislation on Workforce Development. This legislation was based on the realization that workforce development is a critical component of economic development. As Governor Douglas stated at the bill signing, this bill “strengthens the link between employers and Vermonters who seek high wage, high skill jobs in our state.”

The workforce development funded by this legislation will take several forms. At a statewide level, these will be coordinated by the Vermont Department of Labor and the Human Resources Investment Council. The role of the Human Resources Investment Council is to coordinate public and private partners in order to develop a highly skilled workforce that can effectively compete in the regional, national and international economic arenas. On a regional level, Workforce Investment Boards work to support regional economic development strategies by responding to workforce needs as defined by regional participants. For the locations of the regional WIBs visit Regional WIB Map.

The Northeast Kingdom Workforce Investment Board is responsible for coordinating workforce training needs in Caledonia, Essex and Orleans Counties. We strive to gather input from employers and workers across the three counties, and to work with local educators to assure the necessary training is available. We welcome your input into this process. If you have any comments please send them to us at info@NEKWIB.org
